Introduction研究室の紹介

Our life is supported by biomacromolecules such as protein, which exhibit various functions. The three-dimensional structural information of these biomacromolecules is not only indispensable for understanding life phenomena, but also for applications such as drug discovery and development of new functional proteins.

Our laboratory is focused on the structural analysis method using X-ray diffraction, such as protein crystallography and small-angle scattering, to elucidate the relationship between structure and function of various proteins. In addition to applied research, we are also working on new methodological developments of structural research, such as beamline technologies of synchrotron radiation, the experimental equipment capable of diffraction measurement under high pressure (1 GPa, 10,000 atm) environment, or combined analysis with computer simulation.

We are pursuing basic research on the protein, feeling the wonder and fun of the protein structure. We are aiming to create the novel proteins with functions of high efficiency, pressure resistance, heat resistance, and so on, in the future.
